Aside from standard battles, Gym battles, and Contest battles, there are a number of special types of battle which carry special rules. Most of these matches can be had using your special Exhibition Match Slot which all trainers start out with one of for free and additional slots may be temporarily upgraded to allow for special matches.

Exhibition Matches, Reed-iculous Battles, and Rental Battles

An Exhibition Match is a match where multiple trainers wish to battle using a significan variation of the existing rules such as a 3-on-1 match, triple battle, or no type effectiveness match. Certain arenas which are deemed extreme variations of existing rules may only be used in exhibition matches (see rules for Arenas for details). Exhibition matches earn KOs, TP, and SP as normal, and are attributed to a trainer's W/L/D. There are no concrete restrictions on what can and cannot be done in an exhibition match. If you want to have a tag battle and have four trainers battle each other, it can be done. If you want to have a match in zero gravity or perma Wonder Room, it can be done. Use your imagination or borrow from Super Smash Bros, we don't mind. However, the LOs reserve the right to shut matches down if we feel they're too far past the boundaries. Both trainers must be at least Trainer Level Two in order to conduct an Exhibition Match.

A Reed-iculous Battle is an Exhibition Match where a pair of trainers wish to battlle using squads that may contain one or more Pokémon with Reed-iculous signatures. See rules for Reed-iculous sigs.

A Rental Battle is an Exhibition Match where a pair of trainers wish to battle using squads comprised entirely of Pokémon which they do not own, but rent from the League's private training ranch. Rental battles are conducted at equilevel X, where X is the level of the highest level trainer in the match and trainers may select any non legendary Pokémon which is attainable at this level or below. All Pokémon selected in rental battles come without signatures and may not be level up Pokémon. Trainers must specify factors such as sex and shininess when posting squads. These battles may be anything from 1-on-1 battles to 6-on-6 and may be singles or doubles. Any standard arena may be used. Matches may be hidden squad if desired and trainers decide amongst themselves who counts as the challenger and the acceptor. Matches may be slapstick or realistic.

Legend Battles

Legendary Pokémon are always level up Pokémon and enjoy the associated boosts against non level up Pokémon. Additionally, legendary Pokémon are considered to have an evolutionary advantage over any opponent, regardless of that Pokémon's evolutionary level. They do not enjoy this boost when facing other Legendary Pokémon. Legendary Pokémon which are not available to be captured count as having an evolutionary bonus when facing legendary Pokémon which are available for capture, meaning that a Kyogre is more powerful than a Suicune. A legendary Pokémon owned by a trainer can be used in any match that is a 2 on 2 or higher, although it may be used in a 1 on 1 match with the consent of both trainers beforehand. Legendary Pokémon on a trainer's squad are permitted to have a slightly more powerful signature move than usual.

A Legend Challenge allows a trainer to use one of their Pokémon to battle a catchable legend for the chance to capture it and add it to their squad. Trainers must be Trainer level Four or higher to carry out a Legend Challenge. A Legend Challenge counts as an additional slot and does not take up a trainer's existing slots. Trainers do not earn W/L/D, KOs, or TP for their completion (though refs do earn 5 SP for reffing them). If a Legend is successfully captured, it comes in an automatic squad slot. If it is not successfully captured, trainers will be refunded 50% of the SP that they used to purchase it.

Legend Challenge matches are 1 on 1 matches in which every round is carried out by hidden orders, both the trainer and the person designated as Legend Controller ordering via PM to the referee. Trainers may bring an attachable badge or token to the battle but they may not bring a global badge. The battle order is that the referee posts the match thread, then the trainer posts to say what legend they would like to battle, then the referee posts an arena which is appropriate for that legend, then the trainer posts to say which Pokémon and items they are using in the battle, then the trainer and the controller send in their first orders. Battle continues until either the legend or the trainer's Pokémon are fainted. The trainer only catches the legend if they win the battle; a draw or loss is not sufficient.

The following Pokémon are available to be battled and captured in a Legend Challenge. If a Pokémon is not on this list e.g. Mewtwo, Rayquaza, it may not be battled in a Legend Challenge. Legendary Pokémon count as being both level ups and one evolutionary stage higher than opposing Pokémon.

Articuno, Azelf, Celebi, Cobalion, Cresselia, Darkrai, Diancie, Entei, Heatran, Jirachi, Keldeo, Landorus, Latias, Latios, Manaphy, Meloetta, Mesprit, Moltres, Raikou, Regice, Regirock, Registeel, Shaymin, Suicune, Terrakion, Thunderus, Tornadus, Uxie, Verizon, Victini, Zapdos.

Phione is not considered a Legendary Pokémon, and is available to all trainers at Acquisition Level 2.

A Legend Showdown allows trainers to use one of their Pokémon to battle a legendary Pokémon. There are no restrictions on what Pokémon can be fought. Trainers must be Trainer Level Four or higher to carry out a Legend Showdown. A Legend Showdown counts as an additional slot and does not take up a trainer's existing slots. Trainers do not earn W/L/D, KOs, or TP for their completion (though refs do earn 5 SP for reffing them). Trainers do not capture the Pokémon if they manage to defeat it.

Like Legend Challenges, Legend Showdowns are 1 on 1 matches in which every round is carried out by hidden orders, both the trainer and the person designated as Legend Controller ordering via PM to the referee.

A Legendary Rental Battle allows a pair of trainers to battle using squads comprised entirely of Pokémon they do not own, but rent from the League's private training ranch. Any number of these Pokémon may be a legendary Pokémon (no restrictions) but trainers may select non legendary Pokémon as well. Rules for Legendary Rental Battles are the same as those for standard Rental Battles. All trainers involvede in the match must be Trainer Level Five or higher to conduct a Legendary Rental Battle and purchases may only be made with permission from the LOs. Trainers do not earn W/L/D, KOs, or TP for their completion (though refs do earn SP as normal). A Legendary Rental Battle counts as an additional slot and does not take up a trainer's existing slots.

There may only be one of these Legend Battles going on in the ASB at any one time. The LOs may waive this rule in exceptional cases but, usually, when trainers purchase a Legend match of any kind it is placed in to the match queue. The match queue is a list of every Legend match that has been purchased, arranged in order of purchase date with the oldest purchase at the front of the queue. When the LOs think that it is an appropriate time to begin the next match in the queue, they will initiate the proceedings.

For Legend Challenges and Legend Showdowns, the LOs will select a ref and a legend controller. The ref and LOs will then come up with an arena apppropriate for the legendary Pokémon selected once it has been revealed. They will also create or amend the legend's SCs if they are outdated or non existent. For all other matches, once the match has been removed from the queue it is up to the trainers to find themselves a ref as normal. LOs maintain the ability to make alterations to these matches if they are pushing the limits of acceptability.

The match queue can be found here.
